As someone who spent the majority of her early teen years sporting black lipstick, Mac's Cyber really wasn't too scary a colour to pick up and apply. However Scott protests every time I wear it so it's definitely a man repeller. I don't actually know how Scott and I have stayed together so long sometimes, he hates this lipstick, he thinks my Maison Martin Margiela for H&M sideways dresses are the worst things I've ever bought (I got my hands on BOTH colours *insert smug faced emoji here*) and, well, sometimes I just look a little bit too out there.* Must be my sparkling personality that keeps him wanting to spend time with me - the sarcastic comments, the nagging, the full volume outbursts of show tunes that fly from me with no warning whatsoever…

Having said that, I reckon he's got it very easy. If he'd known me in my teenage years I frequently sported a black lip with thick black circles round my eyes - done with several layers of kohl pencil and absolutely not even at all - with no mascara or blusher. I also hadn't quite discovered the joys of a MAC 217 blending brush and during a particularly bad phase with my eczema I found that slathering myself in some variant of Sudocreme that my grandmother would get me from Holland and Barrett not only soothed my skin but, being white, practically matched my face - so I decided to start using that instead of foundation. Because foundation gave me altogether too much colour and the white cream gave me more of the Addam's Family look that I was generally going for. Except it wasn't at all sexy a la Morticia it was more just a bit frightening.

One day after school I was applying my black choices in the bathroom and got caught by a teacher on the way out of the school. We weren't actually allowed any form of make up in school (hence why we all got so good with blending brushes and got obsessed with foundation shades that matched perfectly, it had to be perfected but totally seamless) so despite the fact the bell had technically rung and school was over she made me take it off with some make up wipes that she kept in her office for this very purpose (cause, you know, middle aged teachers really have nothing better to do with their time than march around handing out face wipes to girls who've gotten excited in aisles of Boots or, as we moved up the school, decided to pay a visit to our local department store and stopped by the Benefit counter during a free period.)

Anyway, although school was over as long as I was wearing the uniform I wasn't allowed to have that make up on apparently so whilst I sat in her office taking it off she phoned my gran about 'the offence'. My grandmother told her that she could assure her if there was any way whatsoever that she could get me to stop wearing that stuff then she'd have done it already and if the teacher could get me to give it up she'd personally send her a cheque for a large amount of money. Despite  both their best efforts, I didn't give it up for at least another year. And I reapplied the make up she'd made me remove whilst I was on the train.

*Just to clarify before anyone leaves me any comments about mental abuse or any form of bullying - he never asks me to change anything I'm wearing, more just shakes his head in an 'I am unable to comprehend why it possesses you to wear that' type of way before taking my hand and strolling through the city with me, so don't read too much into it.

  1. What a killer look! Loving the print on the pants and that deep, vampy lipstick is fab :)

  2. Men, in general, don't seem to understand anything outside of "normal" do they? Basically if they notice it, then they don't like it. If they don't notice it, you've gotten away with it. Strange creatures.

  3. Black lips on you are flawless! I love them. Obviously I am in love with your Del Ray as well! Your attention to detail is amazing, love the little bits of neon yellow!
