Dior State Of Gold Nail Varnish

7 November 2015

It's the most wonderful time of the year - the Christmas collections have landed and I've already cleared Dior out of everything I'm after from theirs, so I may as well justify it all by blogging about it, amiright?

Every year Dior's Christmas collection is themed around gold, and this year is no different - it's called State of Gold and this nail varnish is the stand out product - it is the product which shares the name of the entire collection after all.

Let's get the obvious of of the way first - the packaging is beyond beautiful, this nail varnish is practically a Christmas decoration on its own and just looking at it makes me happy. Now, on to the actual product review, because, after all, it is what's inside that counts.

This is full on opaque glitter, the pictures above are one coat. Yep, you read that right - one coat! Look at that coverage! I haven't photographed it (a bit stupidly) but the brush on the Dior polishes is also just perfect for painting your nails with - my nails are definitely the beauty thing I suck at, I just don't have the patience, but the Dior brush makes everything super easy and they're some of the fastest drying formulas I've come across, even though they make no 'fast drying' promises.

In terms of longevity this actually lasts really well. Although this is called State of Gold the polish is actually made up of both silver and gold flakes, of differing sizes, and I don't know if it's those differing sizes that perhaps make the difference? I had this on for 5 days and had only the tiniest chip in one nail. With most other glitter polishes when it comes off it all comes off at once - you look down an you've got nine painted nails and one completely bare one! This isn't the case here.

In terms of the colour it's a very cool gold, probably helped along by the silver involved. I expected this to look a bit like my beloved Nails Inc Chelsea Embankment - which is a full coverage yellow gold glitter polish - but it's actually a lot more understated (or at least as understated as a full glitter polish can be) and maybe a little bit more sophisticated. I still definitely have room for both in my collection though!

It is a full coverage glitter nail polish, which does mean that removal is an absolute pain. But, to be honest, when you buy a polish that looks like this - you kind of know that already.

All in all? It's sparkly, it's perfect for Christmas and it comes in the most beautiful nail varnish packaging known to man. What's not to love?!

  1. This is GORGEOUS! I agree that it's beautifully understated for a glitter polish, I really love that it's a bit of a cooler tone too as I don't think I suit yellow-ish golds xx

    1. I know I am absolutely in love with it! I think the cooler tone makes it so much chicer and more sophisticated, but I think it probably does flatter more skin tones overall as well! xx

  2. I feel like they missed a trick not putting a hole in the lid so you could hang this on your Christmas tree.

  4. Oh my giddy aunt, this nail polish is absolutely beautiful! You're right about the bottle being practically a Christmas decoration in itself as well - I think once the polish had run out I'd still have to keep the bottle out on display.
